History

The idea for a bible camp sponsored by Whitehorse Gospel Chapel (later to become Whitehorse Baptist Church) was first formulated in 1952 by pastor, Rev. Donald Smith. The location selected on McClintock Bay of Marsh Lake was aptly named Marsh Lake Bible Camp. Although the site had been used for several years for informal campouts and picnics, the first official camping season was 1954. Two camps were conducted during that season: July 21 - 29 for boys, and July 30 - August 4 for Girls. Seventeen girls and twelve boys attended the camps that year, ranging in age from eight to sixteen years.

The original tract of land staked and leased by Rev. D. Smith consisted of 2.1 acres. This land tract was transferred to Whitehorse Baptist Church on April 17, 1956. An additional parcel of land was applied for and granted which increased the size of the camp to 6.2 acres. This transaction took place on January 1, 1958. A further transaction in July of 1987 gave clear title to the property known as Marsh Lake Bible Camp.

Tents and outdoor fire pits; campers accompanied by their pets; a plank extended out into the lake for a dock; a staff that loved the Lord and loved the children devoted their energies to giving the campers a fun-filled experience with opportunities to introduce them to the Lord Jesus Christ. That was Marsh Lake Bible Camp in the '50s. While the facilities have changed over the past fifty years, the goal and purpose of Marsh Lake Bible Camp has remained steadfast: introducing children to Christ.
